25 laps of the track ...

not something I ever contemplated when I was a young athlete!

You have got to be a Bedford, Radcliffe, Clarke, Potter, Farah, Pavey, Viren, Dibaba et al.

Now, to see and experience close up runners in the very top rankings of Europe, you can come along to Parliament Hill Athletics Track on Saturday 19 May 2018. The wizard event organiser that is Ben Pochee is at it again - only he has got several steps further by securing the European Cup 10,000m competition on the same afternoon and evening as the fantastic 'Night of the 10,000m pb's'

I was there last May, capturing as much of the action as I could. It was awesome. We don't often say that now where Track & Field is concerned. It's had a bad press for many years ... Not for me to be the judge. I was honoured to be part of what was a truly memorable event celebrating what is good about Track and Field and 10,000m especially.

Crystal Palace, on the 13 July 1973, was the venue for the memorable front-running of Dave Bedford when he broke the world record for the 10,000m. Here was a man who regularly clocked up 250 miles in training! It was a truly electric atmosphere that day.

Fast-forward to 9 May 2017 and I was present at an event that hit the highs in terms of atmosphere - throw in appearances by none other than Lord Seb Coe, Paula Radcliffe MBE, Wendy Sly MBE and Ronnie O'Sullivan OBE and you were guaranteed to have a fun night. The real sparkle was provided by Ben and his wonderful team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to provide an inspiring and fun-packed event.

Athletes commented how much the atmosphere helped them and how it spurred them on. The place was buzzing! British Trials were won and lost; many pb's were set; many beers were drunk. Overall, it was a tremendous advert for Track and Field in this country and especially for 10,000m running. Read what Athletics weekly said after the 2017 event

Next year, in 2018, the atmosphere will definitely be going up a few notches as Europe comes to town! Read what European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen had to say about the event here

Here is one of my images from the event on 9 May this year. I am already looking forward to my association with the event next year as Official #Highgate10k Event Photographer.
