Welcome to In Focus, my weekly blog about all things photography.

It's been quite a journey for me from my first camera body and lens purchase to today, almost 10 years to the day when I nervously found a spot along the 5K course of the Banstead Woods parkrun on 2nd May 2015.

With a lot of encouragement from two dear friends, Don Esslemont and Chris Phelan (both parkrun legends) I managed to capture quite a bit of the run and felt quite pleased with the results as I scanned the images after the event. I had got the bug and was hungry for more!

My camera was a used Canon 30D and I had two kit lenses.

Where do I go from here?

With a very keen interest in sport, I wanted to see how far I could go 'up' the ladder from local events to National (and possibly) International level. I was also very interested in football photography and began researching what it would take to gain access to a Premiership match!

What was my next step?

Next week, I talk about gaining more experience and taking some awful shots ('Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst - Henri Cartier-Bresson).
